Does Trogir have nice beaches? Yes and No. Trogir itself is a stunning medieval town that's well worth visiting, but the best beaches aren’t right in the city. To find the nicest beaches in Trogir, you’ll need to drive or Uber to the nearby island of Čiovo. Here you'll find some of the best beaches in all of Croatia, including the idyllic Labadusa (below), Slatine with its gorgeous views of Split and the mountains, and the remote Mala Draga and Kava beaches.
In this article we'll share the best beaches near Trogir, starting with those within easy walking distance of the town and ending with a few remote gems only accessible by boat or a sturdy car!
Best Beaches In Trogir (And Beyond...)
Labadusa is one of the most beautiful and unspoilt beaches near Trogir.
Why Trogir’s Beaches Are Worth It
The closest beaches to Trogir tend to be smaller, dirtier, more crowded, and less impressive than those on Čiovo island. If you're prepared to venture out a bit further,, you'll be rewarded with crystal clear waters, shady pine forests, chic beach clubs, and, if you go far enough, probably the place all to yourself.
If you do head off the beaten track, don't forget to take enough cash for the day since many smaller restaurants and beach bars don't accept card. It's also a good idea to stock up on water, snacks, and anything else you might need for the day in case you don't come across a shop or bar. Most Croatian beaches are pebbly or rocky, and there are often sea urchins especially on wilder beaches,, so consider picking up a cheap pair of water shoes to protect your feet.
Top Beaches Near Trogir Old Town (5-15 minute drive)
Pantan Beach is a decent option very close to Trogir Old Town.
Distance from Trogir town centre:
~5 minutes by car or ~25 minutes walking
Why Visit Pantan Beach:
This is the closest decent beach to Trogir, so it's popular with locals and families. The waters here are calm, there's plenty of shade, and part of the 500 metre beach is sandy so it's good for little kids. It's also right next to a pretty wetland nature reserve and the historic Pantan Mill which is now a decent restaurant and great option for lunch. Note that Pantan is very close to Split Airport so there can be a lot of noisy planes passing overhead. This could be a pro or a con depending on your kids...
Local Tips:
In high season try to visit in the morning to enjoy the quiet before the afternoon crowd arrives. Have lunch at Pantan Mill and explore the wetlands!
Where to Stay:
Just a few minutes walk from Pantan Beach is the comfortable family-run Apartment Marija which has very welcoming hosts (hi Marija!), a superb seaview terrace, and near-perfect reviews. Also nearby is the luxurious Apartman Casa Vecchia with a sleek, modern design, cosy rooms, and short stroll away from both the beach and Trogir town.
Distance from Trogir town centre:
~12 minutes by car, 1 hour walk, or around 20 minutes via the number 44 bus.
Why Visit Tatinja Beach:
Although it's just a short drive from Trogir, Tatinja beach feels like a slice of paradise. Nestled in a small rocky bay on the south side of Ciovo island, Tatinja offers the most transparent azure waters and smooth sand surrounded by pine forest.
Local Tips:
There aren't any facilities here, so make sure you bring everything you need with you! Tatinja is accessed via a steep rocky path and there's limited shade during the hot summer days. It can get busy at peak times which is usually 11am to 3pm in July and August.
Where to Stay:
The best way to enjoy Tatinja is to stay overnight. That way you'll get the beach all to yourself when you wake up! Vila Tatinja is located right above the bay and offers incredible views from the balcony for your morning coffee.
Copacabana Beach is a popular Okrug Gornji beach that's great for families.
Distance from Trogir town centre:
~10 minutes by car, ~50 minutes walking, or arrive in style by taxi boat from Trogir Old Town for 5 euros. You can also take the number 44 bus from Trogir bus station which takes around 15 minutes.
Why Visit Copacabana Beach:
This 2km-long Ciovo beach is great if you're looking for a lot of amenities and entertainment options. In the summer months there's a big inflatable waterpark, water sports options like jet skis and a banana boat, lounger and umbrella hire, and tons of bars and restaurants. The vibe here is lively and kid-friendly rather than a romantic chillout spot.
Local Tips:
Arrive early to grab a good spot, especially in summer. Parking and traffic can be very tricky during high summer, so consider going early and/or leaving late. Sunsets can be particularly nice from this beach, so it's worth sticking around or driving over for a sundowner drink. We especially like Vagabundo Beach Bar for drinks and Konoba Pizzeria Aldo a short walk away from the beach for lunch. Many of the other food options on the beach tend to be overpriced and low quality.
Where to Stay:
The town of Okrug Gornji has a plethora of accommodation options, but the better choices are further away from the bustling beach area. We really love the light and airy apartments at Villa Eight which is run by the local Kuzmanić family and has nice sea views and an outdoor barbecue in the garden that guests can use. Another great option is Apartment Agnes which boasts a large rooftop terrace and swimming pool.
Family-friendly Medena Beach is a short drive along the mainland from Trogir.
Distance from Trogir town centre:
~15 minutes by car or ~20 minutes by bus numbers 45 or 50 from Trogir bus station
Why Visit Medena Beach: This pebble beach stretches around 1.5km along the Trogir Riviera from the village of Seget Donji. Medena is next to the large Hotel Medena resort so it's a great option for active families since there's loads to do. Medena Beach offers water skiing, parasailing, jet skis, kayaks, and paddleboards as well as beach volleyball, tennis, mini golf, 2 football pitches and basketball in the hotel complex.
Local Tips: We recommend bringing water shoes for the pebbly shoreline and some snacks and drinks to avoid high prices at nearby eateries. With so many activities on offer it's a great place to for a day trip. You can also take a stroll further along the Riviera and visit the smaller Seget Vranjica Beach, Vranjica Beach, and Bučevica Beach .
Where to Stay: Seget Donji can be a great place to base yourself if you're travelling with kids since it's quieter than Trogir and Split and you've got easy access to Medena beach. Nice options include Apartments G literally right on the beach and the chic Apartments Marer where you'll be hard-pressed to choose between swimming in the sea or in the private pool.
Top Remote Beaches on Ciovo (15-30 minute drive)
For us, Trogir's best beaches are the wild coves tucked away on less accessible parts of the island. And the further you go, the more beautiful it gets. Here's some of our favourite Ciovo beaches. Bear in mind that you'll need a car (or an Uber) to get to most of these, and some are only accessible by hiking or by boat.
Labadusa Beach is a true slice of paradise, yet still only a short drive from Trogir.
Distance from Trogir town centre: ~15 minutes by car or you can take the number 44 bus and walk about 20 minutes down to the beach
Why Visit Labadusa Beach: This spectacular beach feels like a true slice of paradise thanks to the gorgeous setting amongst pine tree forests and the incredible azure waters. And best of all, it's still only a short drive from Trogir Old Town. Here you'll find the swanky Laganini Beach Club which offers fine dining and comfortable lounge areas and beds.
Local Tips: If you can't tell already, this is one of our favourite beaches near Trogir (and in all of Croatia!). We recommend going in May/June or September or early in the morning to avoid the crowds. Spend the day relaxing at Laganini or bring your own supplies and have lunch at the more rustic Tavern Labadusa at the campsite next to the beach.
Where to Stay near Labadusa Beach: A great budget option is Camp Labadusa where you can wake up right next to the sea. Prices start at 18 euros per person for camping. If you prefer something a bit more luxurious, check out Villa Salum which has a gorgeous seaview garden and hot tub or the spectacular Villa Rudini which is so stunning we had to include a photo...
Villa Rudini is an incredible villa right next to Labadusa Beach.
Distance from Trogir town centre: ~30 minutes by car or bus/ferry/taxi ride to Slatine followed by a 1 hour hike
Why Visit: Confusingly there are two beaches named Kava Beach on Ciovo island. One is easy to get to and the other is not. If you're up for a little adventure, this remote and tranquil wild beach at the far tip of the island has to be on your radar. You can drive the dirt road from the town of Slatine. Or take a bus, taxi or ferry from Trogir to Slatine and walk around 1 hour along the gorgeous rocky coastline to the beach. It's worth checking out Slatine beach on your way - the town beach has a few beach bars and a generally chill atmosphere.
The wild beach known as Kava is perfect for relaxing away from the crowds.
Local Tips: The best things about Kava are the peace and quiet and the incredible views of Split and the mountains along the coast. Bring everything you'll need for the day as there's quite literally nothing near the beach. The nearest shops are in Slatine.
Where to Stay near Kava Beach: The closest accommodation to Kava Beach is in the town of Slatine. There are many great options here with gorgeous sea views including the chic apartments at Adria Beach House or your own private villa with. a pool like Villa Freya.
Final Verdict: Does Trogir Have Nice Beaches?
Trogir itself doesn't have beautiful beaches to rival Croatia's most fabulous spots, but the town IS the literal gateway to the gorgeous island of Čiovo. Here you'll find the most perfect, unspoilt natural beauty just a short drive away from Trogir.
So yes, Trogir has nice beaches - you just need to know where to look! Pack up your beach bag (and don't forget your water shoes for those sharp rocks and sea urchins) and discover them for yourself.
